# Understanding Your IVF Protocol | Rockfield Pharmacy

## The IVF Clinical Sequence

A standard In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) protocol is a carefully timed sequence of pharmacological interventions designed to stimulate multi-follicular development.

### Phase 1: Suppression & Recruitment

Utilising GnRH agonists or antagonists to prevent premature ovulation, allowing the clinical team to control the cycle timing and recruit a cohort of follicles simultaneously.

### Phase 2: Controlled Ovarian Stimulation (COS)

The administration of recombinant FSH or hMG to promote the growth of multiple eggs. This phase requires frequent monitoring via transvaginal ultrasound and serum E2 levels.

### Phase 3: The Trigger & Retrieval

The final maturation of oocytes is induced by a 'trigger shot' (hCG or GnRH agonist), followed by oocyte retrieval exactly 34-36 hours later.
