Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, has evolved significantly with the advent of vitrification—a 'flash-freezing' technique that prevents ice crystal formation.

### The Vitrification Process

By cooling the eggs at an extremely rapid rate, the fluid inside the cell turns into a glass-like state. This preserves the delicate cellular structure more effectively than older 'slow-freeze' methods, leading to much higher survival rates upon thawing.

### Success Factors

The success of future use is heavily dependent on the age at which the eggs were frozen and the number of mature eggs retrieved. Ideally, freezing before age 35 yields the highest treatment outcome probability.
